Dakos Recipe

The traditional mezze of dried barley rusk topped with juicy tomatoes and crumbled feta or mizithra cheese.

A recipe for Cretan Dakos. A traditional mezze of dried barley rusk topped with juicy tomatoes and crumbled feta or mizithra cheese. A delicious and easy to make appetizer.

4 barley rusks 1/4 C olive oil 2 tomatos 4 oz mizithra or feta cheese 1/4 C salted olives 1 tsp dried oregano

INGREDIENTS

To prepare rusks run them under water for a few seconds to help soften them. Then drizzle with extra virgin olive oil.

Grate your tomatoes and spoon over each rusk. Top with crumbled or shredded cheese. You can use either mizithra or feta, whichever you can find.

To finish, sprinkle with a little dried oregano and some black salted olives. I would suggest one last drizzle, or two, of olive oil and then eat up!
