Apples
Crisp, sweet and at their best in the fall, apples are as good in savory dishes as they are in dessert. Bake an easy Apple Tarte Tatin with store-bought puff pastry, a rustic Easy Apple Galette with cinnamon crumble, or an indulgent Apple Cardamom Cream Cheese Tart. Sliced thin, they add sweet crunch to salads like a holiday-ready Radicchio and Endive Salad or a quick Celery Apple Fennel Salad, and they’re great with crispy Chicken Cutlets with Roasted Squash. Tip: for baking, pick firm apples like Honeycrisp, Pink Lady or Granny Smith, which hold their shape in the oven. For salads, toss sliced apples with a little lemon juice to keep them from browning.
